Background of the Study
Depression is a prevalent mental health condition among adolescents, with far-reaching consequences for their emotional, social, and academic well-being. In Kaduna State, the growing awareness of adolescent mental health challenges has highlighted the need for effective interventions. Nurse-led interventions, including counseling, psychoeducation, and support groups, are recognized as cost-effective and accessible strategies for managing adolescent depression.
Nurses, as frontline healthcare providers, play a crucial role in identifying symptoms of depression, providing early intervention, and promoting recovery. Studies (e.g., Yusuf et al., 2024) have shown that nurse-led interventions can significantly reduce depressive symptoms, improve coping skills, and enhance adolescents’ overall quality of life. However, the effectiveness of such interventions in Kaduna State remains underexplored, necessitating focused research to inform practice and policy.
Statement of the Problem
Adolescent depression is a growing public health concern in Kaduna State, contributing to poor academic performance, social withdrawal, and increased risk of self-harm. Despite the potential of nurse-led interventions to address these challenges, their implementation is limited by factors such as inadequate training, stigma, and resource constraints.
There is a lack of research evaluating the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in managing adolescent depression in Kaduna State. Addressing this gap is critical for developing evidence-based strategies to improve mental health outcomes for adolescents.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on evaluating nurse-led interventions for managing depression among adolescents in selected healthcare facilities in Kaduna State. It also examines barriers to implementation and proposes strategies for improvement. Limitations include variability in intervention outcomes and the influence of external factors such as family and school environments.
